Denis Barabé and his colleague Marc Gibernau (CNRS, France) jointly received the Gandoger prize for phanerogamy, for the year 2024, awarded by the Société botanique de France, in recognition of the quality of the research, publications and works, and the exceptional contribution made to the discipline. This prize was awarded to the winners to recognize the work they have accomplished in botany, and in particular their study of the Araceae of French Guiana. For more than 20 years they collaborated on research on the biology of this family of plants (morphology, anatomy, development, physiology, pollination and systematics). Much of this work is synthesized in their book “Les Araceae de Guyane française. Biology and Systematics”. Note that this research made it possible to harvest numerous living plants which are currently in the greenhouses of the Montreal Botanical Garden.
