7th conference of the Phragmites group a success

The 7th conference of the Phragmites group, a research collective focusing on this common invasive reed (Université Laval, McGill University, Université de Montréal), was held at the Biodiversity Centre on October 13-14, 2011. The conference was organized by Claude Lavoie (Université Laval) and Jacques Brisson (IRBV). More than 70 individuals attended, including researchers, professionals, student researchers and managers. Presentation topics included issues related to genetics, impact on fauna, repercussions of climate change and control technologies. Seven presentations were delivered by American researchers (Montclair State University, University of Georgia, University of Rhode Island, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Utah State University) conducting research on reed genetics and its impact on animals. The conference was a great success. The proceedings will be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Le naturaliste canadien.
