Geoffrey Hall, new collections coordinator of the Marie-Victorin Herbarium

Geoffrey Hall is the Marie-Victorin Herbarium’s new collections coordinator. He is an expert in the field of Quebec floristics and plant taxonomy, particularly the Carex species, and an authority on flora of other countries, including Mexico. He is actively involved in botanical research in Quebec, and recently participated in the digitization of the Herbarium’s collections, as part of the Canadensys project. Welcome, Geoffrey!

Geoffrey Hall replaces Stuart Hay, who retired in June 2012. Stuart held the position of assistant-curator of the Marie-Victorin Herbarium for over 30 years. Known affectionately as “Stu”, he will not be leaving the Herbarium definitively. Rather, he will continue on as a volunteer, sharing his vast knowledge of botany and the Gramineae, Cyperaceae and Juncaceae families. Researchers will still be able to consult with this great botanist, who is an indispensable source of information on indigenous plants. As a retiree and volunteer, he will continue to discover new Quebec species among the Herbarium’s specimens, spotting those previously misidentified. Thanks, “Stu”, for your remarkable contribution.
