INSTITUTE

Mission and Values

The IRBV has set itself the following missions:

  • to promote the on-going development of a centre of excellence in plant biology and biodiversity, both in fundamental research and its applications;
  • to ensure the conservation of research collections in plant biology, entomology and mycology;
  • to train students in plant biology and biodiversity at the bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels;
  • to promote the continuing education of its researchers and technical personnel;
  • to facilitate the technological transfer of its scientific research results to the community.

IRBV strives to provide an equitable, diverse and inclusive work and living environment. In 2020, the Institute created an Ethics, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee to give concrete expression to its commitment and promote its values.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The Institut de Recherche en Biologie Végétale (IRBV) is committed to creating an inclusive work environment where everyone has the same opportunities and where our processes, politics and practices are equitable.

The IRBV is committed to identify the barriers and obstacles preventing the full participation of members from our institute to the realization of our mission and to find solutions for breaking down these barriers.

The IRBV is committed to recognizing and valuing the diversity of its members as well as their ideas and experiences and to increasing the representation and retention of people who are being marginalized on the basis of gender (identity or expression), ethnicity, handicap (mental and physical health), religion or beliefs, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, language or accent, migratory status or citizenship, autochthonous identity, etc.

The IRBV is also committed to providing inclusive, welcoming, accessible and safe work and study environments where everyone has the opportunity to grow through contact with others while staying themselves. The IRBV will practice the principle of zero tolerance regarding inappropriate comments or behaviours, involving discrimination, harassment, physical or verbal violence and exclusion.

The IRBV aims to:

  • ensure equitable access to studies, research and funding for all members of its research community (student community, researchers, support staff);
  • integrate the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in its development, activities and practices;
  • collect the appropriate data, while insuring confidentiality, and perform the necessary analyses to ensure that issues of equity, diversity and inclusion are considered in decision-making;
  • maintain a continuous communication with members of the institute for the purpose of deploying initiatives favoring EDI.
