RESEARCH TOPICS

Passionate about entomology since a young age, Maxim Larrivée holds a master's degree in landscape ecology from Carleton University in Ottawa and a PhD in entomology from McGill University. He specializes in the study of the impacts of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on the biodiversity of several groups of arthropods including spiders, beetles and lepidopterans. He is the developer of eButterfly, a citizen science project to track the long-term distribution of butterflies in Canada in the context of global change. Mr. Larrivée is also interested in the management of biodiversity information in Canada, notably through the development of collections, as well as in the development of educational tools aimed at raising awareness of entomology, climate change and the use of web tools dealing with biodiversity information.

Since 2012, Maxim Larrivée has held the position of Division Head, Entomological Collections and Research at the Insectarium. In 2019, he is appointed Director of the Montreal Insectarium.
