Recipients of the 2014 Pehr-Kalm Award

nouvelles-pehrkalmOur congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Pehr-Kalm Award, and sincere thanks to Les Amis du Jardin botanique de Montréal for supporting research at the IRBV.

Master’s level prize ($5000):

Sam Karathanos received the award for his research project on management of an invasive plant in a protected environment entitled “Approche de gestion intégrée d’une plante envahissante (Phragmites australis) dans un milieu naturel protégé”. His supervisor is Jacques Brisson.

Ph.D.-level prize ($2000):

Charlotte Marchand was awarded the grant for her research project on decontamination of a site polluted by petrochemical activities entitled “Décontamination d’un site pollué par les activités d’une entreprise de pétrochimie”. Her supervisor is Mohamed Hijri.

Alice Roy-Bolduc was honored with this award for her research project on fungi communities in a dune ecosystem entitled “Communautés fongiques du sol dans un écosystème dunaire côtier aux Îles-de-la-Madeleine”. Her supervisor is Mohamed Hijri.

Aymeric Yanitch received the award for his research project on phytoremediation of arsenic-contaminated soil entitled “Phytoremédiation de sols contaminés à l’arsenic”. His supervisor is Michel Labrecque.

Valentin Joly was awarded the grant for his research on molecular communication and interspecific barriers in Solanum sect. Petota entitled “Communication moléculaire et maintien des barrières interspécifiques chez Solanum sect. Petota”. His supervisor is Philippe Matton.
